8. Perruzzi

Critically acclaimed to be a definitely a good album, the 10-track debut album Huncho Vibez Vol. I is the body of work where Peruzzi owned it. After a round of scandals of slapping an influencer and over-dependence on other artiste to flourish, Huncho Vibez Vol. I was released with just one feature. It seems he is sending a message to critics that he can be independent, understands the kind of pitch for a beat and cement the authenticity of his talent. The album is the proverbial journey of a thousand miles begins with Huncho Vibez Vol. I. This is a valid reward to the fans for the previous monotonous work.

This follows on the hills of being the poster child of MrEazi’s empower initiative.

The ‘don’t call me back’  and ‘all for you’ which forms part of his Love and Light album are all the hits that have credibly conferred on him the reputation of releasing no bad song since breaking onto the scene.

6. Rema

In March 2019, Don Jazzy announced through social media the signing of a then-new upcoming act, Rema to his Mavin Records.

The signing was immediately followed by the release of the visuals to his introductory single, 'Iron Man.' In fact, it is believed that the signing is in response to the growing thirst for Nigerian music globally and also the company’s desire to eventually become a music powerhouse in Africa which can be safely concluded that Rema was vital part of that plan.

Mavin Records’ newest signee, Rema has made history as the first Nigerian artist to debut five top songs on Apple Music. The 18-year-old also set records on the TRAP charts with songs off his eponymous Extended Play (EP), ‘Rema’. Other international digital streaming platforms like Deezer and Spotify are currently on the rise with Rema creeping into the best spot and editorial picks. The EP’s leads singles are “Dumebi” & “Iron man” is an undeniable highlights of the records and so far it's surprising. In fact, it no surprise that Barack Obama is a listening fan of the Edo born singer who was born on May 1, 2000.

With these exploits so far, it was a matter a time before the accolades started rolling in. At the 2019 Headies Awards, Rema grabbed the ‘next rated’ superstar award.

The singer defeated the likes of Zlatan, Lyta, Victor AD, Joe boy and co to go home with the coveted award. He promptly remarked that he is the future. That might rightly be so as many believe he has made a huge impact in the industry within a very short time. Rema’s prominent singles ‘Iron Man’ and ‘Dumebi’ has garnered 11m and 2m youtube views respectively.

5. Wizkid

Since the days of his Empire Mates Entertainment, the talented Ojuelegba crooner has been it holding down solidly. Yet, 2019 seems to be one of his biggest years.

First, the queen Bey herself featured him in arguably one of the biggest songs of 2019 - the brown skin girl song off her lion king album. And he didn’t disappoint in the delivery.

On the home front, he delivered as expected as well as he dropped hot singles Joro and Ghetto love as icing on the cake for the collabo with Beyonce. Now, for the second year running, he succeeded in shutting down the prestigious O2 Arena in London for his fun-filled Starboy Fest. Wizkid is not new to success, but 2019 has been one of his best years in the industry as his international status has added another win.

Wizkid is having a great year and it keeps on getting better. The superstar sold out the O2 Arena in London for his Starboy Fest—all 20,000 seats—making him the only African to have ever sold out the coveted venue two years running and it was wild.

4. Davido

David Adeleke has been on eagles wings with back to back wins in the year 2019. Earlier in the year, social media was agog with the news of his engagement to his girlfriend, Chioma. The buzz has not settled on that, then the news broke that he has fathered a son from the same Chioma as well. As if those were not enough, he made back to back international collaboration with Chris Brown which became hit songs.

Back home, his collabo with Zlatan and Naira Marley became a hit; turned around a mockery during a radio show into one of the biggest songs (risky) of 2019 topping charts on all fronts for weeks on end.

Then to cap it all, he released a well-cooked album rightly titled A Good Time as this is really a good time in all spheres for OBO. What more can a man ask for?

3. Zlatan

Omoniyi Temidayo Raphael, also known as Zlatan Ibile, who is widely famous for his catchphrase, "Kapaichumarimarichopaco" is a Nigerian rapper, songwriter-Singer, and dancer. In 2014, Zlatan won the Airtel One Mic talent show held in Abeokuta, Ogun state.

After dishing out hits in musical works like “Zanku” song and well as dance, “Killing Dem” and others, it is no surprise that Zlatan is one of hottest and most featured artiste of 2019. True to his growing reputation, he has never disappointed in any collaboration from Able God with Chinko Ekun to Gelato with Cuppy to Gbeku with Burnaboy to Shotan with Tiwa. He has not failed to impress with hits ‘Shaku Shaku,’ ‘Zanku’ ‘Leg Work’

He has achieved so much within a short time considering his former status not long ago where he recounts that he did some menial jobs before he became the superstar singer that he is today. According to him, he was once a bricklayer; he cut grass for people and worked in a cold room at 10 thousand Naira per month. Zlatan’s rise to be one of the most featured artistes Nigeria is truly amazing.

2. Naira Marley

Most of his life was spent growing in the UK when he was taken there at age 11. However, the profile of Afeez Fashola better known as Naira Marley sporadically soared within a short while. He released  ‘Issa Goal’ in 2017 which became a street anthem. However, his present fame status stems from a scandal.

In May 2019, he was arrested as a suspected yahoo boy following remarks made supposedly supporting advanced fee fraud. Meanwhile, he released another street anthem AM I A Yahoo Boy? Following his release from EFCC’s custody, he has since raised a large army of cult-like followers now known as Marlians. His Marlian fest show at the O2 Brixton Academy with a capacity of 4,921 was sold out in just three minutes according to  OAP, Adesope Olajide popularly known as ShopsyDoo.

He shut down the O2 Arena in London at the Wizkid’s fest concert when he was introduced and he sent the crowd wild with his performance. It is almost indisputable that his introduction and performance were the highlights of the show.

Despite his controversial status and his lifestyle likely being resented by the conservative who sees him as a bad influence, Naira Marley has solidly established himself as one persona you would love to hate but can’t deny his strong influence on the streets.

1. Burnaboy

This is the golden boy of the Nigerian music industry in 2019. Burna boy wowed his fans consistent churning of hits such as ‘Dangote’, ‘On the Low, ‘Gum Body’, ‘Anybody’,’African giant’ and a host of others, it is clear that he deserves every recognition he’s got for his efforts.

Earlier this year, he lashed out at the organizers of one of the largest music festivals in the world Coachella expressing his dissatisfaction with the listing where unlike the big international stars, his name appears below artistes such as Pusha T and Gucci Gang and his name was written in tiny fonts. In a post on his Instagram story, Burna Boy wrote, "@coachella I really appreciate you. But I don't appreciate the way my name is written so small in your bill. I am an AFRICAN GIANT and will not be reduced to whatever tiny writing means. Fix things quick please'' he is quoted by pulse. His Grammy-nominated album title came from that incident with the Coachella scandal as he later revealed. Despite the controversy, in April, the star performed some of his hit songs like 'Ye' and 'Killin Dem' at Coachella alongside big names like Solange, Kid Cudi, and Billie Eilish.

Later in the year, he featured in Beyonce’s Lion King album and has won a string of awards such as the BET awards.
